What’s your story?

A friend of mine and I had been doing dinner theatre productions for fun as a hobby, and eventually that evolve to include more types of media and as both our careers evolved so did our skill sets. Hers in film, mine as a Lobbyist and we decided to pool our resources and create a media company that also handled strategic campaign management and it took off. We mostly created that business so that we could find employment for all of our friends and it has made for a joyous life experience.

What excites you most about your industry?

Our industry is in film, multimedia production and corporate/political strategy which often necessitates media so it’s a perfect fit. We deal with a lot of innovative people and public figures, and it’s exciting to see talented people making great contributions become successful with our help.

What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?

We don’t like bandwagons, and find many of the modern ones quite toxic. For us, being outliers or brutally honest in a world where honesty is now considered offensive, excites us the most.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

Diplomacy would be the biggest. The world of lobbying can be quite contentious as well as in politics, and learning how to stay cool and collective allows me the strategy that navigates well through calamity. I’d say my biggest talent is turning the worst thing that ever happened to somebody, into the best thing ever in the long run.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

When disaster strikes look for the opportunity.

Who inspires you?

My father. He is the ultimate entrepreneur and has reinvented himself several times. Like most entrepreneurs he has suffered many failures but also a lot of successes. Some of his best successes have resulted from initial failures and that’s important to hang onto when times get tough.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

Graphene -It’s a nano material that is set to revolutionize manufacturing the way plastics did and I feel very fortunate to of been retained by a global industry leader in this innovation.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I would have gotten over my hang-ups about money and my limiting beliefs around wealth a lot earlier. Negative and limiting beliefs kept me from success a lot longer than necessary.

How do you unwind?

When times are very stressful I do a lot of long-distance walking but otherwise, my favourite thing to do at the end of the day is to unwind on the porch with a cocktail, smooth jazz & my life partner.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?

Knowing my worth. It sounds cliché but many women have this hang-up and so did I. I always felt I had to give away things for free or under charge just to get the opportunity to prove my value – big mistake and it took a lot for me to get over it.

Everyone in business should read this book:

You Can Heal Your Life -Louise Hay It is not a book about business, but it is a book about being responsible for your own mindset, success and happiness and it lays the foundation for a very successful business.
