Despite leaving school early, David Perrotti is committed to learning and applying what he learns to his home renovation business.
What’s your story?
I started working for a builder at 16, attended trade high school for carpentry, joined the military and spent 12 years being deployed to Iraq twice and other places. I used the GI bill to get my business management degree and opened Fine Home Contracting in 2012. I started on the tools for the 1st couple years and then built a sales department, production and project management team. We are aggressively growing with the foundation of technology, systems and procedures. I recently wrote a book on our niche, Gov backed reno loans is the best way to finance renovations
What excites you most about your industry?
The building and remodeling industry is the last most fragmented industry out there. With such a high demand for a standardization, and elevated customer service. I am excited to do my part in raising the standards and creating a company that can scale and service large populations.
What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?
I love to create and am somewhat of a perfectionist. Building and creating a company that can be a great place to work but also provide a great service to clients is super rewarding and exciting.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
Hands down spending time to learn. You need to learn daily and as fast as you possibly can. So the skill could be time management as you need to set aside time to learn but I think learning is also a skill as you have to develop the want and the how.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
I try to get new best advice daily. You can reread a book years later and get a completely different message from it the second time. So I do not have one thing but all of it.
Who inspires you?
Anyone that has found peace for themselves and helps others. I find this goes hand in hand with a lot of very successful people but not all. I find money is a score board but inner peace is what everyone is truly looking for.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
Aliens are real ( or the government is acknowledging it now) This will be interesting as a lot more money is going to be allocated to follow up on it. Who knows what they will find.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I believe everyone is on a journey and you have to take every step. I think I would dive into reading books and learning earlier to make the steps little quicker.
How do you unwind?
My Backhoe on our property clearing land etc., listing to an audio book or podcast. I also mediate’ do yoga and exercise.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?
Your business is only as good as you. Concentrate on your stress management, outlook and perceptive, and how you run your life. The business will mirror you and your team will mirror you. If you are a mess your business will be.
Everyone in business should read this book:
Of course all the classics, Rich Dad Poor Dad, E myth, How to Win Friends, The Richest Man in Babylon, Leadershift etc. But nonbusiness books I have found get more results. Anything by Don Miguel Ruiz, Anthony de Mello, Eckhart Tolle.
