Jordan Campbell runs Verve, one of China’s most exciting event agencies.

What’s your story?
I’m from Scotland, but have been brought up in various countries around the world, before coming to China over 10 years ago. I run Verve, one of greater China’s most exciting event and activation agencies.

What excites you most about your industry?
The dynamism. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to promote brands, creating experiences for guests at events and promotions and truly getting to the core of what a company and event represents. The DNA of every company is so important and our job is to make that DNA shine through at every experiential activity.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I have been based in China now for over 10 years and pretty much wanted to jump on the high speed train that is the Chinese market!

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Shanghai – by far. Not only is it a natural hub for business and commerce, but its rapid development, coupled with the international outlook that oozes here makes it a perfect centre for growing brands and experiences.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Never wait for things to happen. Make them happen for yourself.

Who inspires you?
It may sound cliché, but my family. They have always encouraged me, given me this overwhelming confidence in my ability. Although my brothers always like to bring me down a peg or two (as brothers do), they themselves have achieved so much, following what they truly want to do – for me that is inspirational. Aside from family, it is the likes of Elon Musk, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali – all living proof that nothing is impossible, until it’s done.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
Trump is the future president? Is this true?

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
To be honest I’m not a big fan of regretting anything, as each mistake made along the way is a great lesson for the future. As long as you can take calculated risks that minimise the downside, then mistakes made will never be too big to handle. Sure, there have been times where I have kicked myself for being silly, but I’ll try to make damn sure I don’t repeat it!

How do you unwind?
I play a lot of football and golf, followed by wind-down drinks with the team! Another thing I absolutely love to do is get lazy on the couch, stick on a DVD box set and binge watch a whole series in one sitting – it’s good to escape!

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
The less busy beaches of Thailand, hands down. Crystal clear waters, white sands and trying to leave the mobile phone in the hotel!

Everyone in business should read this book:
Tough one as there are loads. One I read recently that I absolutely loved Mark McCormack’s “What they don’t teach you at Harvard Business School.” Terrific insights into how to get ahead and little tricks that everyone should learn in business.

Shameless plug for your business:
Verve creates unparalleled engaging event and promotional experiences for brands and companies looking to set themselves apart across China. We also have a sports division that creates memorable experiences for our sports clients, as well as creating our own intellectual property for large-scale, multi-city tournaments. Our talent division provides staffing solutions for all our events – from F1 girls and promotional talent, to performers and emcees.

How can people connect with you?
[email protected]. Can also add me on Linkedin!

Twitter handle?
No twitter as I’m in China! But the email above should do the trick. As an entrepreneur not a day goes by when you are not online!
