Kamil Foltan

Kamil Foltan has spent 21 years in F&B and his commitment to providing what the client wants has not abated.

What’s your story?

Hi, my name is Kamil Foltan and I am an F&B Coach & Mentor, Bar Consultant, Alcoholic & Non – Alcoholic Beverage Consultant as well as bar mentor with 21 years of consolidated experiences in all F&B across UK, Spain, Ireland, Czech and Asia Pacific with my base in Singapore.

What excites you most about your industry?

Food & Beverage is one of the oldest industries and it has always connected people together. Nowadays, we can learn about different cultures through the dining and drinking habits they have.

What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?

Sharing consolidated knowledge, motivating people in the F&B industry on all levels from business owners through management all the way down to staff.

I also enjoy  building projects from the start and have the power to build  new venues and products for the market.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

hm.. tough one, …. probably listening and communication. F&B is all about service and delivering what our patrons/ clients/ guests, at a specific moment, want and have as a vision for their business.

To be able to deliver, you definitely have to be good listener and be able to communicate clearly.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

To have patience as success comes with time and experience, especially when you are building your own business.

Who inspires you?

My wife, Barack Obama, the Dalai Lama and my parents.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

Lately, I have been learning more about tea cultures all around the world. I had no idea that there are teas that cost a SGD $1000 per KG and more.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

Nothing at all, I love it the way I have it.

How do you unwind?

At home reading a book with cup of good tea. With family on Sunday strolls around Singapore as well as with good food and friends.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?

Research before the project starts. There arevalways plenty of unknowns and opportunities to learn.

Everyone in business should read this book:

Ikigai – The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García
