Niyati Designs Bespoke Luxury Diamond Jewelry You Will Love

What’s your story?
Growing up in Mumbai, with parents who worked in the fashion industry, I developed a fondness for design and art. I wanted to combine the two fields so I began with a degree in Fine Arts and then another degree in fashion design from the Parsons School of Design in New York.

What excites you most about your industry?
Whilst I knew I would love the creativity and design part of my industry, I did not realise that I would actually enjoy interacting with people the most. Jewellery purchases are usually occasion driven and I love being a part of these happy moments. I am most excited when I unveil the finished pieces to clients and watch their delighted reactions!

What’s your connection to Asia?
I am so deeply rooted in Asia! I grew up in India and have been living in Hong Kong for the past 15 years. I consider Hong Kong to be my home. My 2 children were born here and my husband grew up in Hong Kong. I love the people, efficiency, and pace of this city just as much as I love Mumbai, where most of our extended family lives.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Hong Kong! Especially for entrepreneurs. We have manufacturing at our doorstep in China, access to one of the largest markets to procure diamonds and gemstones, as well as a large number of customers who love to buy and bling themselves up!

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Do what you love and love what you do! As long as you go into work every single day being excited about doing your best, working will never seem like a chore! I firmly believe in this statement and have lived by it all my life.

Who inspires you?
My mother has been a huge source of inspiration for me. She has balanced being an entrepreneur and a great mom. She also supports our extended family whilst still creating time for herself and her friends. Watching her all these years has definitely given me a sense of “you can have your cake and eat it too!”

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
This year, more than any other, has shown me how resilient people are to change! A world with closed borders, less economic activity, kids being home from school, and yet, life goes on. We find new paths, creative ways to keep the kids happy, and spend more time doing things that actually matter. This year is going to play a pivotal role in history and it is amazing that we have had to deal with all this change so early in life. It will give us the tools to deal with harder things in the future!

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
Nothing! Life has its own ways of teaching you that each path leads to another. It may be better or worse but you always look ahead! You have to move and flow with the tide and always keep the source of your happiness within you!

How do you unwind?
I have practised Yoga since I was a teenager and continue to do so passionately. Being a mother of two boys we are an active family and do outdoorsy activities like hiking or cycling. I also love catching up with my friends over a glass of bubbles!

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Oh there are so many places I enjoy visiting! There’s Thailand for the food and spas, Bali for yoga, and Japan for skiing!

Everyone in business should read this book:
All my strength lies in designing and being creative, so I would recommend, for anyone in the design field, to look back in history and find pieces that inspire. I love browsing through my collection of books on heritage jewels, or masterpieces from the art world, as well as fabrics and patterns going back to ancient history.

Shameless plug for your business:
We are a small boutique jeweller. The level of personalization and care we can offer you is second to none. My passion lies in designing pieces and building relationships that go on past the single piece of jewellery. Our prices are extremely competitive and we offer an extremely well designed product. Our master craftsmen, who we have been working with for years, are very trusted. I come from a design background, so envisioning what the customer wants comes naturally to me. I create and bring customer ideas into reality and make the perfect piece for each customer!
