Starting as a sleep therapist did not constrain Shubhra Venneti from moving into other areas of the wellness industry

What’s your story?

I was raised in Hong Kong and lived overseas all my life and had the full run-down of third culture kid syndrome: Stringing together bits and pieces from Western, Chinese, and Indian cultures to formulate who was I and how did I fit into society. Little did I know it was going to become a lifelong quest. Ever since then, I realize I have taken a particular interest in working with people who feel like they are a little out-of-the-box, those who feel like a fish out of water and have had to make their own rules to survive and thrive.

What excites you most about your industry?

I work in the broad spectrum of health and wellness. I am a Sleep expert and have been for the last 3 years, but what really fascinates me is the body’s ability to self-heal. It’s been an obsession of mine since I first embarked on my sleep consultant journey. I have since extended my practice further with hypnotherapy and energy-esoteric healings as well as meditation. The wellness industry especially the Mindful Movement sector is projected to be #1 in growth over the next coming years. I look forward to the human race connecting deeper with themselves and each other.

What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?

We tend to think of healing as an isolated event but as I learned further, healing has to operate on multiple levels; it’s like a beautiful domino effect on our biological processes, hormonal processes and thus influencing our mental and emotional processes. So much of this isn’t in the typical education system. My firm belief is in order to make a healthier and happier society, you have to start with the parents to break generational cycles of misinformation and pain to give our next generation a chance to create a more harmonious planet to cohabit together.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

Collaboration, compassion, and kindness. From my upbringing and as I learn day-to-day, we have been raised with the archaic thinking of competition and rising above the others. I have always struggled with this concept because like so many others out there I have experienced cruelty when people can’t draw the line on getting ahead by stepping on others and I do not think that’s how businesses can survive going into the future. Our planet and humans need to work in synchronicity with each other and not against it. An abundance mindset rather than a lack mindset is very much needed.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Energy attracts energy. When I first began as a sleep consultant, I’ll admit that a part of my ‘why’ in becoming a consultant was purely to become financially independent. I wanted to help people and be paid doing it. Recently when I began my other new services in energy coaching, I started doing it with only the idea to help people and not for the money, and clients flowed a lot more easily, much to my surprise.

Who inspires you?

Over the last 2 years, two of my biggest influences have been Dr. Joe Dispenza and my mentor, Tarra Tae. These two juggernauts in my life have brought in meditation like never before. Although I have a foundation in meditation, their work helped me take it to the next level. I have been able to lift my fibromyalgia, lifted a part of my chronic fatigue syndrome, lifted my depression, and I have increased my abilities to manifest. More importantly to feel true oneness with everyone and all around me. Given the recent pandemic situation, I could’ve been a lot worse.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

My industry is all about helping people move out of fight and flight and into a more restful, parasympathetic, healing state. I was fascinated to learn that 95% of our behaviour and thus our life is governed by the subconscious mind and its thought patterns created through emotions captured in memories. And thus if our patterning is in constant survival mode, we tend to focus 99% of our time on stress and things that make our lives stressful, i.e. the sympathetic stress response system. This effectively allows for no healing to take place. Without healing, this leads to disease.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I honestly wouldn’t do anything differently because I’m glad I’m where I am at right now. Perhaps I wish I could’ve started a little earlier to avoid the difficulties and the anguish I had gone through, but honestly, without those memories and events, I wouldn’t be right where I am today. I am happy to say I finally came to a point where I can be grateful for the past and the lessons it has and continues to teach me. Do I still feel anguish? Sure! In moments but I know can move through them quickly, like a passing shower.

How do you unwind?

Meditation, Netflix and chill, Gaia TV videos, and lots of books on the brain, heart, energy coherence, and quantum realities.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?

I don’t do vision boards yet, but active visualization meditations have been huge. By seeing it happen already in my mind, as if the future is already in the past, my brain then makes it a point to make the visual a record of the past, meaning to make my future happen for me. The missing key for me was the heart. I needed my heart to feel joy and not relief in those meditations, which took me a while to master. The second is to hire people who love doing the jobs you don’t love- a win-win situation.
