Adrien Pierson is excited to launch his new business in Singapore. He admits Singapore was his chosen city as inspired by his father’s stories and photos. Yourgolfworld.com, will launch next month and will apply his passion and experience in this new and exciting business venture.

What’s your story?
After 15 years of working in different countries and industries, I decided it was the right time to apply passion, experience and business!
Launching in the next few months, is an e-commerce platform, www.yourgolfworld.com providing upmarket golf related products and services in Asia. Golf is an aspirational and positive game and I wanted to create an online hub for brands that reflect this aspect of the game. I have always wanted to create a business I believe in. Surely the expected difficult beginnings are outweighed by the excitement of creating something of value!

What excites you most about your industry?
Asia is the world’s fastest growing golf region and will remain so for the next few decades. Yourgolfworld.com hopes to play an important role in this development by targeting a niche which will constantly look for originality and creativity. It is very exciting to ensure your company is able to surprise its customers.

What’s your connection to Asia?
My father lived in Singapore in the 60s. The photos and the stories were enough to convince me to do the same at some point in my life. Now in Singapore for 3 years, my father’s office has disappeared but our son was born here and will hopefully have some fun stories to tell to the fourth generation!

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Singapore of course! As a European, the use of English makes life a lot simpler but I also see Singapore as a decompression chamber before entering other Asian markets. Singapore’s openness to the world makes it an ideal platform to start and grow a business.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
My grandmother always told me to follow my instincts. In essence, say what you do and do what you say. It doesn’t always work out but it always feels right. When I have adopted this approach I have never had regrets.

Who inspires you?
People inspire me. I find inspiration everyday from either a musician, a politician, a painter, a sportsman or a businessman. For me, inspiration is a daily process but I have admiration for those capable of turning inspiration into action. So, if we talk about admiration, then I would invite Beethoven, Winston Churchill, Pablo Picasso, Messi and Steve jobs for dinner.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
That pineapples did not grow from trees but from the ground. A little revolution took place in my fruit salad when I found this out!

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
Listen more and focus on life’s true objectives, not money. The latter will come if the first two are done properly.

How do you unwind?
Play golf and have my round under 80. If I don’t, I’ll play another round to unwind!

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Krabi in Southern Thailand. We have found an ideal spot where my wife, children and I can all relax during the day.

Key Takeaway: A study has found that humble leaders can become more promotable by growing others through a “humility route”.
