A fascination with the human body and its movements led dancer Jimmy Wong into the Wellness Industry and the biomechanics of bodywork.

What’s your story?
I have been a dance performer for over 11 years and then I discovered bodywork. My bodywork specialises in fascia manipulations. I chose to train in bodywork because I have always had a keen interest in the human body and its movements. My bodyworker friend recommended me to study with Anatomy Trains and it could not be a more brilliant idea. It has taught me a lot more about myself and how the human body works biomechanically. And now I have been treating people with postural problems, movement dysfunctions and chronic pain issues.

What excites you most about your industry?
I would consider my industry to be Wellness. It is exciting because I can make a difference to the quality of life for an actual person, and it is something that everybody can benefit from. Having your client telling you that he/she is no longer in pain or discomfort is probably the most rewarding thing about my work.

What is your connection to Asia?
I am from Hong Kong and I grew up here so Asia is basically my home.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
I would say Hong Kong. Business transactions move quickly and efficiently. The city is filled with people from different nationalities and backgrounds, it thrives with business opportunities, and starting a business takes literally no time!

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
“What is your intention? What are you trying to achieve?”. It is a question that our beloved bodywork teacher always asks during our training. Although it didn’t start out as “advice”, it has helped me stay focused on my goals in every aspect of life – what result do I want and therefore what action should I take?

Who inspires you?
Michelle Obama. I love how she can be so eloquent and down-to-earth at the same time. She’s always speaking out on issues that really matter and she’s always using her power to help others in need.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
All my office worker clients walk in with very similar issues – Issues that can be resolved if they didn’t sit and stare at a computer all day. Movement is the key to a pain-free life.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
Depends on how much time I would have had. I would definitely want to start my bodywork training much earlier. It is something that one needs to immerse themselves in to get good at it. I guess if there is ever something that you want to do, do it now!

How do you unwind?
I like to train doing handstand and aerial straps. They are great training for your body. You need to be super focused while doing it. It keeps you very present, and strong.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
I like Bali because it offers a wide selection of activities. You can do a lot of yoga in Ubud, you can spend a whole afternoon relaxing at beaches or you can go to some neighbouring islands for hiking tours.

Everyone in business should read this book:
The Triple Package: How Three Unlikely Traits Explain the Rise and Fall of Cultural Groups in America. One of the traits they talk about is “Impulse Control” and I think it is something that everyone can learn from.

Shameless plug for your business:
I give my clients 100% of my time and attention during my session.  There will never be a moment of me hooking my clients onto a machine and then going off to treat another client.  Every session is tailored to the client’s needs and I often monitor how my clients feel days after our sessions.
