George and Yeow are Strong Advocates for a Plant Based Diet
What’s your story?
For almost 20 years, I worked as a volunteer, teaching local and international organizations why there is a need for, and how to move toward plant-based diets. Recently, I saw so much entrepreneurship in this space, I wanted to give it a try. So I founded Health Partners along with my business partner, Loh Yeow Nguan. He has a similar story to mine, but his story is even more intense.
What excites you most about your industry?
It is exciting to make a living doing something we believe in so strongly! We teach people how easy it can be to take animals out of their diet, and how doing this boosts human health, protects the planet, and shows kindness to our fellow animals. Plus, now we see the link between eating animals and pandemics.
What’s your connection to Asia?
I’ve been in Asia for about 30 years. My wife was born and raised in Asia. Yeow was born and raised in Singapore.
Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Singapore is just so convenient.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
I get lots of good advice; my problem is following it for more than a day or two.
Who inspires you?
There are so many well-organized, dynamic, clear-thinking people in the alternative protein space. Kelvin Ng of Green Monday comes to mind.
What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
When Covid-19 first hit, I thought it was going to be relatively minor, like SARS, but to see its massive impact and to think that Covid-19 and other zoonotic diseases need never happen, I believe more than ever that persuading people to embrace alternative protein can be critical to survival.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would have entered the entrepreneur space earlier and linked to people who were similar minded.
How do you unwind?
I exercise, chill with family, and prepare my own plant-based food, especially fruits.
Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
I’m a homebody. Give me any nature area in Singapore, even if it’s a park connector.
