Fahad Provides Creative Photography and Video Services

What’s your story?
I am a creative director and a photographer, from Hong Kong. What started off as a hobby has become a dream realised, as well as a career. I work closely with individuals and brands to produce visuals and storytelling.

I began filming during my high school years, where I learned the craft mainly through online videos and self-experimentation. Back then, I did not have the financial ability to buy a lot of equipment, nor was I surrounded by creative people or artists. From an early age, my parents encouraged me to pursue a career in law enforcement. But, my calling was to learn everything I could about the art of photography. I diligently took photos of urban architecture and street scenes. I walked endlessly around the city, capturing its important details and context. I was so in love with photography and cameras!

About a year and a half ago, I came across a photographer who shares a similar background which resulted in our forming a production company called “Shutterup Media”. We have worked on many projects with all sorts of people and enterprises in Hong Kong, as well as abroad! As co-founders, Mark and I have been working together to build our business since 2018.

What excites you most about your industry?
The limitless forms of storytelling in visual art certainly boosts my interest in this industry, as there are no rules to creativity!

Each project is like a storybook. Inspiration comes from what our clients envision, and I build on that by experimenting and trying out new things to give them a unique, quality result. It gives me the opportunity to talk to people and to express my art through a certain video or photograph..

Since it is an era of social media, there’s a lot of space for each individual to grow so I think building your portfolio and engaging in applications like Instagram continues to excite my interest.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I love the feeling and security of belonging here, and I’m proud to be a part of this beautiful city!

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
I would definitely pick Hong Kong as my favourite city simply because it’s my hometown as well as the base for my business. Hong Kong is diverse and there are so many business opportunities for just about any sort of business. It’s a city of hard work and enthusiasm. Although not as relaxed as other cities, it is certainly a place where everyone works hard and plays hard! That said, Shanghai and Singapore would also be at the top of the list.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
My father has always advised me that, in life, it is key to be humble, and to be an honest man.

Who inspires you?
Many people have inspired me from a young age. One of my best friends has selflessly wished for my well-being since we were kids. He has worked hard with me and motivated me in many endeavors, and I think I can never thank him enough for his support. And, my parents, who have given their all into raising me and making me a good human being. I especially look up to my mother, who is strong and independent, because she helped me learn to love myself.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
Recently, I learned that one of my favourite photographers on Instagram has released a course which includes many aspects of the entire production process and how to better your skills.

I think that is absolutely mind-blowing since not many people are willing to teach face to face or create an online course that includes live calls and consultations. It is awesome!

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I think I would have liked to overcome my shyness, early on. Though I am no longer shy, I still wish I could have changed that from the very beginning!

How do you unwind?
To unwind, I like to spend time with friends and family. They take me away from spending as much as 80% of my time in front of a desktop screen.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
It’s got to be Bali! With its amazing landscape and weather. It’s a great spot to relax and go on adventures!

Everyone in business should read this book:
“How to Win Friends and Influence People,” by Dale Carnegie, is a great book to read if you’re trying to stand out in a group.

It covers topics such as, making people like you, winning people over to your thinking, as well as learning how to lead without offending anyone’s personal space or recommendations. There are many aspects covered in this book. It’s a particularly good book if you are looking to improve your confidence or to become a better speaker.
