There are enormous parallels between the artists journey and the entrepreneurs journey.  In both cases you are creating something from nothing, the ultimate in alchemy.  Successful artists, like successful leaders have also discovered that it is not enough just to create, you need to build the teams around you to get out to market.  In the amazing city of Hong Kong, Elsa Jean de Dieu appears to be doing just that!

What’s your story?

As a special paint artist from France, I have been in the industry in Hong Kong for almost 7 years and having established my own business since 2012, I am truly enjoying what I do and grateful for having all the opportunities to grow as an artist and as an entrepreneur at the same time.  The incredibly fast pace of the interior and construction industry in general, in combination with the dynamic energy of the city always gives me a great drive and energy in my works.

What excites you most about your industry?

New challenges from different designers and clients and projects, no matter it’s the artistic challenge in doing something I have never done before or the scale of projects or the always last minute rush for the completion date.  And having exciting opportunities in creating new businesses with our own paint shop.  Everyday there is new challenge on all different sides and that really excites me.

What’s your connection to Asia?

I have been established here for almost 7 years.  This is my home!

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?

Hong Kong – there is a special energy in the city.  Our office is in Sheung Wan and it’s very convenient to see most of our clients and get everything organized.  The efficiency you could achieve in this city just cannot be compared.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Whatever does not kill you makes you stronger.

Never give up and see the positive in each situation.

Where the thought is the matter follows.

Who inspires you?

My partner Eunice Cheung inspires me everyday, she is this kind of person who always spreads her love and positive attitude around, and even when having to unravel some very complicated situations!

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?

Go with the flow, the universe will take care of the rest.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

Nothing.

There is no point in changing the past but we have the power to change our future, everything happens for a reason and purpose and we are learning how to be a better person everyday.

How do you unwind?

I love running, I love green, I love nature, so the mountain is my favorite place to detox my body and mind.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?

There are so many destinations in Asia I have yet to explore!  But a few months ago I went on a volunteer trip to Nepal with Habit for Humanity, and that whole journey was spiritual and enlightening, and relaxing in the sense of humbling my spirit even though it was physically exhausting when you spent a week building houses with simple tools and your hands.

Everyone in business should read this book:

“The Power is Within You” by Louis Hay.

Shameless plug for your business:

We don’t advertise or see the point to, when clients and designers see the works we do and meet with us, our professionalism and enthusiasm creates the trusting working relationships essential in all businesses.

Key Takeaway: Leading scientists and technologists often make terrible predictions about the direction of innovation, leading to misalignments between a company’s economic incentives to profit from its proprietary AI model and society’s interests in how the AI model should be monetised and deployed.
