Sherina Designs Personalized Trend-Forward Gifts

What’s your story?
My passion for art and design began at a young age. It led me to the Rhode Island School of Design where I attained a degree in Graphic Design. I began my career in New York and after several years I returned back home to Hong Kong where I designed for an entertainment publication.

When I got married and decided to start a family, I needed flexibility in my work. After freelancing for several years, I discovered that there was a demand for personalized gifts. Instead of simply adding a name to a product, I wanted to create gifts that were unique in design and one-of-a-kind. Hence the journey of Pop Pixel Prints began.

What excites you most about your industry?
When it comes to creation, there are no boundaries. If you can imagine it, you can make it happen. The design industry gives me the freedom to create whatever my heart desires and allows me to do what I am interested in, what excites me, and hopefully, it will also excite my clients.

What is your connection to Asia?
I am Indian by ethnicity, and was born and raised in Hong Kong. I travel frequently to other cities in Asia, but my roots will always be in Hong Kong. I have experienced first hand the diversity and spirit it holds, the cultural blend of east meets west, and I have fallen in love with its buzz, both day and night, which makes it such a unique city.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Definitely Hong Kong. It is one of the world’s most international business-friendly cities. I find Hong Kong has a great community that is extremely supportive of small business owners.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I feel very blessed to be in a profession that I am truly passionate about!

Who inspires you?

My husband. His ambition and motivation to achieve is inspiring. He has the ideal combination of passion, determination and drive, while still finding the time to be an amazing father to our two children.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
I am blown away by the amount of support I have received in order to keep my business thriving during this sensitive time of Covid-19. Instead of people shying away from shopping, as we would have thought, Covid-19 has actually brought people together. People have been eager to purchase gifts for their children’s teachers to show gratitude for supporting them during school closures, while others have been seeking out personalized homeware to create a sense of warmth at home.  It’s been a difficult time, but it has shown me that we can stand together as a community.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I am a strong believer in destiny, and I believe I am meant to be where I am today.

How do you unwind?
I unwind by curling up on my balcony with my kindle and some good music.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Boracay and Palawan in the Philippines are my absolute favourite destinations. The beaches are stunning, with crystal clear waters, powder soft sand, and the marine life is magical. Boracay has a buzz which you can enjoy both day and night while Palawan’s nature and underwater world is a feast for your eyes.
