Karishma is a Home and Commercial Interior Designer in Hong Kong
What’s your story?
I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to Hong Kong when I got married. I used to design Women’s footwear back then, and did the same in Hong Kong too, for a bit.
When we moved into our place in Hong Kong, I designed the interior myself. And when friends and family came over, they approached me to help them with their interior design. I have been designing interiors for clients for the past eight years. I’ve designed homes and bars in Wyndham Street and I love every aspect of the design process!
What excites you most about your industry?
There is always something new to learn and try! Every project is different. I work with a lot of expatriates and they all come from different parts of the world. Some become friends and some move away, but it’s always fun to explore and create different interiors based on the clients’ taste and unique desires. It is always challenging, but that’s the fun part of working in this industry.
What’s your connection to Asia?
I think Asia is quite an inspiring continent. I’m Indian, was raised in the Philippines and now live in Hong Kong. I have travelled all over Asia, and have been inspired by the many different cultures and heritages I have visited.
Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
I can’t choose just one, as both China and the Philippines are great for my business. They have the wonderful furniture choices that my clients want in their designs.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Don’t let anyone stop your creativity!
Who inspires you?
Women. Working women inspire me a lot!
What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
I learned that even during Covid-19, my business is still important! I continued to get inquiries and orders for home furnishings. It was amazing.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently, as I believe I am where and what I am today because of what I have accomplished to date.
How do you unwind?
A glass of wine …. and a great massage are always good choices for unwinding.
Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Bali! I love Bali. It’s got everything you want to help you relax in your own way. You can chill, enjoy the spa, go for a great meal or even to a party. Everything is available.
