Brad’s Mission Is to Help You Feel Better, Get Fit, and Live Longer

What’s your story?

I’m originally from a town of around 1,000 people in Oklahoma, USA.  I spent a few years working in the American security industry, and eventually ended up moving to Asia with an organization to combat organized crime, piracy, and threats of terrorism in the region. Fun stuff, in the early days especially, but as we grew and grew I was basically living on airplanes, getting out of shape and in some ways, hating my successful life.  I became hyper-focused on martial arts and ended up competing professionally, while developing a total fascination with fitness and nutrition along the way.  I sold my security company and put all my efforts into Ritual Gym and this has been my main focus ever since.  It’s not just a job for me. Getting fit not only improved my life, but it actually saved it and I’ve been on a mission to help as many people have the same awakening that I did.

What excites you most about your industry?
We’re in the business of helping people live longer, live better, move better, and feel better.  We help them live their lives in such a way that they will be able to roll around on the ground and be active with their grandchildren. I genuinely love that.

What is your connection to Asia?
Asia is my entire life.  My businesses, my family, my friends live here and I’ve been living in Asia for nearly 20 years, so I’m definitely all in.  It’s quite a contrast from growing up in a tiny farm town in Oklahoma.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
It has to be Singapore.  I think everyone is well aware of Singapore’s reputation as a world-class business hub, but beyond the usual rave reviews Singapore receives, it’s just been very very good to me on so many levels. I built businesses all around the region before landing here because I think  Singapore, for business, is far ahead of the curve.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

“Never fry bacon without a shirt on.” — My Grandfather

Who inspires you?

This could be a rather lengthy list. I find inspiration from many, however, right now I can honestly say that my mother inspires me.  As the years tick on and as I raise two children of my own, I realize how incredibly wise my mother is.  I think everyone probably takes their parents for granted, but she and I  now have a relationship where we speak almost every day.  She continues to drop wisdom bombs on me that make me realize how incredibly blessed I am to have been raised by such a brilliant person.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?

Two things, first that Donald Trump is President of the United States of America.

Second, that your eyes are actually a part of your brain that gets squeezed out during development.  They aren’t really a separate entity.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I would speak less and listen more, take better care of my body and brain from a younger age, and perfect the ability to nap.

How do you unwind?

Spending time with my family and my friends is my favourite thing to do in the world.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?

Koh Phangan, Thailand.  I can’t really explain it, but I really feel more at peace there than anywhere else.  Plus, I love the Pad Thai and Singha Beer.

Everyone in business should read this book:

“The Hard Thing about Hard Things,” by Ben Horowitz

It’s an extreme example of things going wrong on your entrepreneurial journey, but it helps set an expectation that things are going to go wrong.  Plus, it’s laden with great gangster rap quotes.
